Hello there friends.
We are a family of four from New Zealand – Amber, Martin and our girls M (8) and L (nearly 2). We love to travel and have adventures whenever we can.
Martin and I have done a handful of long backpacking trips in SE Asia and India, where we travelled on a tight budget and stayed in some amazing, and some less than desirable places. You can read about some of those earlier travels in the archives on this site.
It was on our trip through India that we saw families travelling with children, and thought to ourselves, “If they can do that here, then you really can take kids anywhere”. That thought stuck with me.
When M came along we had our first taste of travel with children when we travelled to England for my sister’s wedding, then enjoyed stints in Morocco and Malaysia, when she was 18 months old. The experience backed up my earlier thought – you really can take kids anywhere. We had an amazing time with her, then returned home.
When M was four, it felt like the right time to go large. We spent six weeks travelling through Thailand, Laos and Vietnam with her and had the time of our lives. M was adaptable, fun, respectful of, and interested in other cultures. She was also surprisingly astute about some of the social differences she witnessed, and didn’t have to be prompted to declare her appreciation for how lucky we are to live in New Zealand. Many memories made on that trip have lasted for her and she’s 100% hooked on travel now too.
Now that our littlest, L is nearly two we are on the road again. This time we’ll spend two months in Indonesia, including a full month on Bali where we’ll live a semi-normal life elsewhere for the first time.
Alongside my taste for travel, I’m also a passionate foodie with a taste for the exotic. I run another blog, Quite Good Food, where I share healthy, interesting and delicious plant-based recipes from my kitchen. Check it out.
